President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva meets on Wednesday, 30, with assistants to discuss “the sovereignty of the Brazilian people”, after the United States government confirms the executive order with the 50% tariff on products imported from Brazil.
Estadão/Broadcast found that the Ministers of Finance, Fernando Haddad, the Attorney General of the Union, Jorge Messias, the Secretariat of Social Communication, Sidônio Palmeira, the Secretariat of Institutional Relations, Gleisi Hoffmann, as well as the Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, are at the meeting.
Shortly before, the president said at a closed ceremony at the Planalto Palace for the sanction of the bill that prohibits the use of animals in cosmetic tests, which would hold the emergency meeting. The Secretariat of Social Communication released the audio of the speech of participants, including Lula’s.

“We managed, at 5 pm, to sanction a law that defends animal sovereignty. The creatures of God that have as its natural habitat planet Earth will no longer be guinea pigs of experiences in this country. I am leaving here complete because I will gather there to defend another sovereignty,” said the president.
“The sovereignty of the Brazilian people due to the measures announced by the President of the United States. So today, to me, it is the sacred day of sovereignty, a sovereignty of things I like. Animals and human beings,” he added.
The meeting also occurs after the United States sanctioned Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court, based on Magnitsky Law. The government studies how to respond from both an economic and legal point of view, either because of the confirmed tariff or by the sanctions to the Brazilian Supreme Court Minister.
