The Polish Navy modernizes its fleet. The Orka program aims to obtain submarines with top technology, capable of autonomous operations and strategic commitment.
The Polish Ministry of Defense confirmed that the program aimed at procuring new submarines for the Polish Navy continues and is currently in the inter -state consultation phase. These are kept not only about technical parameters, but also about long -term strategic cooperation. This is reported by Warsaw TASR rapporteur, according to PAP.
The Orka program assumes that new submarines will be able to operate autonomously for at least 30 days, dive deeper than 200 meters and will be equipped with torpedoes, missiles and ability to use mortars and fraudulent drones. At the same time, they will allow the silent transport of special units. The Polish Navy currently has the only outdated ORP submarine Orp 1985.
Modernization plans
The acquisition of new submarines is part of the long -term modernization plans of the armed forces, which have been in force for more than ten years; Nevertheless, the contract has not yet been concluded. The former ORP submarine Sokol, in the open letter, called on the government to accelerate the process, with further delays jeopardizing the country’s safety. In response to this, the Defense Department stressed that the contractor’s selection process is progressing in accordance with the schedule.
