Between January and May this year, the city of São Paulo recorded 121 deaths from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SRAG) caused by influenza, according to data from the Municipal Health Secretariat (SMS), obtained at the request of CNN. The number represents an increase of 57.14% compared to the same period of 2024, when 77 deaths were accounted for.
The cases of the disease also grew in the city – in the first months there were 1,368 cases – 39.17% increase over the same period last year, according to data from the municipal agency.
In the state of São Paulo, 2,136 deaths were recorded by SRAG (by influenza and other respiratory diseases) until May, according to data from the State Department of Health (SES).
