The Israeli Navy intercepted the boat on the morning of Monday, 185 km west of the coast of Gaza. The vessel was chartered by the Flotilha da Liberdade coalition (FFC), a non -violent international movement of solidarity with the Palestinians, created in 2010, which combines humanitarian aid and political protest against Gaza blockade.

The boat passengers were transferred to Ben Gurion Airport, near Tel Aviv, to be repatriated, the Foreign Ministry of Israel said. Environmentalist Greta Thunberg travels on a flight to her home country, Sweden, scale in France, the ministry announced on social network X, a message that includes a photo of the activist sitting on a plane.

“Those who refuse to sign the expulsion documents and to abandon Israel will be taken to a judicial authority, in accordance with Israeli law, to authorize their expulsion,” the ministry added, stating that the activists had contact with their respective countries at the airport. The Israeli government accused “Greta Thunberg and the others of having tried to stage a media provocation with the sole intention of advertising.” Israel faces growing international pressure to end the war in Gaza, where the population is bombarded daily and is on the brink of hunger due to the restrictions imposed, according to the UN.
