French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou accused French activists on Wednesday, who were members of the Madleen Madleen crew sailing into the Gaza Strip, using the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to gain political attention. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.
A group of 12 activists wanted to break the naval blockade of the Palestinian enclave by Israel and bring the destroyed Palestinian territory a symbolic amount of aid to the war. At the same time, they wanted to raise awareness of the local humanitarian crisis caused by blocking the supply of aid by Israel, which has been fighting Hamas in the Palestinian enclave for 20 months. But Israel detained all activists on the boat on Monday.
Detention of activists
On board the sailing ship under the British flag was also the French MEP of Palestinian origin Rima Hassan, who, along with three other French activists and four others, continued to be detained in Israel.
The remaining four activists, including two French citizens and Greta Thunberg, agreed to immediately deport after they were banned from entering Israel for 100 years.
Mathilde Panot, chairwoman of the parliamentary club, accused the French Prime Minister of failure to condemn the steps of Israel.
“These activists have achieved the effect they wanted, but it is a form of instrumentalization that we should not submit,” Bayra said at the National Assembly. “Only through diplomatic measures and efforts to unite several states to put pressure on the Israeli government can we achieve a single possible solution”, he added.
UN meeting on Gaze
AFP recalls that France and Saudi Arabia will co -organize the UN meeting this month in New York on the steps of the Palestinian State recognition and the achievement of a two -state solution.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Naël Barrot in Parliament said that a priority in connection with the Gaza band should “be an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages detained by Hamas, as well as an immediate, unlimited and massive approach of humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population”.
“In any case, Mrs. Rima Hassan’s gestures and its use of the suffering of Gaza’s inhabitants do not help to achieve these goals,” he added. According to him, the French consul visited all four French activists detained by Israel.
The Israeli Ambassador to Paris said the aim of Israeli officials is to send these activists as soon as possible.
