Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro said on Thursday that his government will consult the issue of recognition of the Palestinian State with the President of the Republic and Parliament. In the event of a positive result, Portugal could officially recognize it during the 80th meeting of the UN General Assembly in September. Portugal was among the fifteen Western countries called on Tuesday evening to recognize the Palestinian state. The joint call came at the end of the international conference organized by French and Saudi Arabia to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in New York.

Canada, Britain, France and Malta are likely to be added to the Palestinian countries of the Palestinian States
Canada also announced the intention to recognize the Palestinian state on Wednesday evening. Prime Minister Mark Carney makes this conditional on the Palestinian self -government, including a fundamental reform of public administration and election management until 2026, in which the Hamas Palestinian militant movement must not play any role.
Canada, Britain, France, Malta and Portugal are likely to join Spain, Ireland, Slovenia and Norway, which were recognized by Palestine in May and June this year.
