The Future Institute of former PSOL President Juliano Medeiros filed a lawsuit proposed by the Arayara Institute against auction by the ANP (National Agency of) exploration blocks in the Parecis, Pelotas, Foz do Amazonas and Potiguar basins.
The action argues that the ANP is using as a technical basis a document called the joint manifestation that expires in June this year, before the expected deadline for auctions in September.
The play asks for new bidding processes in the areas only to occur based on a new valid manifestation, or through strategic environmental evaluation (AAAS) specific to the basins offered.
“Instituto Futuro sees with concern the advancement of economic interests on, in particular, the exploitation of hydrocarbons in new watersheds and their environmental impacts,” says the petition.
According to the NGO, “in an era where the whole public sphere discusses the possibility of a policy of transition from energy matrices in the sense of strengthening sustainable resources, the exploration of hydrocarbons is not only a pernicious activity for the environment, but also a technologically dated resource.”
