The attempt to dissolve the Parliament of Israel fails, amid tensions by the recruitment of ultra -orthodox

The preliminary vote to dissolve the Israeli Parliament did not achieve sufficient support to be admitted to process with 61 votes against and 53 votes in favor, after a parliamentary session that was extended until late in the morning of this Thursday.

The opposition, led by the YESH Latid party, needed the votes of two ultra -orthodox factions that are part of the Government of the Prime Minister and that had threatened to withdraw their support for their slowness to approve a law that allows to exempt much of the ultra -religious Jews of doing the mandatory military service.

However, Israeli local media report that both parties, united Judaism of the Torah and Shas, finally voted mostly against the dissolution of the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament, arguing that they had achieved some principles of understanding with Netanyahu.

In a parliamentary session that began on Wednesday and extended until the early hours of Thursday, the ultra -orthodox matches proposed to postpone the vote until the following week, but the opposition decided to move forward with the process.

The dissolution of the KNESET meant the previous step to convene early elections, but its permanence allows you to gain a Netanyahu questioned from within its own coalition.

They want them to approve a plan that allows to maintain much of the military exemptions to the members of their community that, from the foundation of the state of Israel, allowed the Jews who studied full time in a religious school not to do mandatory military service.

In June 2024, after expiring the temporary provision that allowed exemptions (the matter had never been ratified by law), the Supreme Court ordered the Army to begin to enlist the ultra -orthodox, which forced the government to implement a proposal of law to maintain much of the exemptions, although it also contemplates the enlistment of some ultra -religious.

The proposal, however, has been blocked in Parliament for months due to differences in the ruling coalition of its scope and the mechanisms to enforce it.

The military exemption of the ultra -orthodox is a controversial issue in Israel, even more since the war in the Gaza Strip began, which has led the Government to prolong the duration of compulsory military service and to mobilize tens of thousands of reservists to maintain its offensive.
