Former Tourism Minister Gilson Machado, who was part of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, was arrested on Friday (13) in Recife (PE) by the Federal Police. The detention occurs in the scope of the coup attempted attempted event that resulted in the complaint of 30 people, including former President Bolsonaro and his former orders, Mauro Cid.
According to the PF, Machado would have operated in May this year with the Portuguese Consulate, in the Pernambuco capital, to enable the emission of a Portuguese passport to Mauro Cid – investigated as a central piece in the logistics of the coup plot. The suspicion is that obtaining the document would be part of an escape strategy in Brazil.
Machado was with Bolsonaro the day before, during a political act in Natal (RN), but returned by car to Recife, where he was arrested the next morning. ICD arrest was also authorized this Friday, after the advance of the calculation of the alleged attempt to obtain fraudulent foreign nationality.

Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid had already been arrested in previous investigation stages. According to PGR, he, Bolsonaro and other allies planned actions to nullify the result of the 2022 election, won by Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), and keep the former president in power by illegal roads.
The new arrests occur amid the completion of the interrogations in the Federal Supreme Court (STF) of the so -called “operational nucleus” defendants of the coup plan.
