The Israeli army launched the first series of its “preventive strokes” against military and nuclear targets in Iran on Friday night. The highest spiritual leader Ali Khamenei subsequently warned that Israel “must expect a strict punishment”.

Plans for attack

Netanyahu explained in his video conversation that in relation to Iran “it was necessary to act … I set the implementation date for the end of April 2025.” However, this “did not work out for various reasons,” he added.

Iran described the wave of Israeli attacks as a “declaration of war”, while US President Donald Trump warned Tehran against “even brutal” attacks if he did not reach an agreement on his nuclear program.

Goals of Israeli attacks

The Israeli army claims that in the attack it seriously damaged the underground complex in Nananza, where there were centrifugs to enrich uranium and support infrastructure. Similar devices in Fordó, Isfahane and Bushehri reportedly not the goal.

However, the rocket bases and infrastructure for ballistic missiles were also under fire. The aim was to weaken Iran’s ability to respond with rocket counterattacks and limit its technological development in this area.

Several high -ranking commanders of the Iranian armed forces and six nuclear scientists also died in the attack.

The Israeli operation has a code name up to the lion (Rising Lion), which is a reference to the 24th Chapter of the Numeri book, where the lion is used metaphorically to describe the Israeli nation.
