The court of Acre has decided that Jairton Silveira Bezerra, 45, will be tried by a popular jury for the murder of his former partner, Paula Gomes da Costa, 33. The crime took place on October 27, 2023, at the Juarez Távora subdivision in Rio Branco.

According to the investigation, Paula was stabbed to death in the presence of her daughter and father of the accused. Jairton did not accept the end of the relationship and attacked the victim violently, even though he was already under protective measures.

Arrested since November 3, after surrendering at the Women’s Police Station, Jairton had the pre -trial detention maintained. In the decision, Judge Alesson Braz pointed out that the reasons that led to prison remain valid, such as the severity of the crime and the risk of new violent acts.
In addition to femicide, the defendant responds for committing the crime in front of his daughter and for disobeying court orders. The date of the trial has not yet been set, but the process continues with priority and should be completed later this year.
