Defender Nicolás Figal and midfielder Herrera are out of the match against Bayern Munich on Friday (20); Argentine press hinted in favor of Europeans in the competition
It announced it punishments to two players after the 2-2 draw with the first round of Group C do. Defender Nicolás Figal and midfielder Ezequiel Fernández (Herrera) were suspended for four matches. Both were expelled during the confrontation, played in a tense climate in Orlando. Figal received a red card straight through an entrance with the sole in midfielder cinnamon Florentino Luís, who suffered a shoulder dislocation following the bid. Already Herrera, who had been replaced, was expelled for protesting incisively against the arbitration while in the bench.
FIFA’s decision generated criticism between fans and part of the Argentine press. On social networks, many pointed to excessive rigor in the punishments to Boca and raised suspicions of favoring European clubs. The Argentine club intends to appeal, but already knows that it will have important embezzlement for the game against, this Friday, at 22h (Brasília time), in Miami. With just one point, Boca must win – or at least not lose – to follow with good chances of classification.
FIFA also punished Benfica’s striker Andrea Belotti with two suspension games. The Italian was expelled after hitting Ayrton Costa’s head with his foot in a violent play in the second half. The Portuguese team returns to the field early, at 1 pm on Friday, against Auckland City at Inter & Co Stadium.
