The US Embassy Chief Gabriel Escobar has summoned to explain new threats to punishment to ministers of (Supreme Federal Court) as part of an offensive in defense of the former president ().
In a publication on social networks on Thursday (7), the embassy said that the minister is “the main architect of censorship and persecution against Bolsonaro” and signaled that the “allies of Moraes in the judiciary and other spheres” can also be punished.
Escobar was received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday morning by Ambassador Flavio Goldman, who is interimly occupying the Secretariat of Europe and North America of Itamaraty.
According to reports by members of Itamaraty, the Brazilian ambassador expressed outrage at the tone and content of Americans’ publications. Gordon would have reinforced the view that Trump acts with internal affairs, makes unacceptable threats and attacks Brazilian sovereignty rather than negotiating tariffs.
In diplomacy, the Ambassador’s call to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is a way of demonstrating discontent with topics of the bilateral relationship.
Escobar is in charge of business and responds interimly for the US diplomatic mission. The country has been without ambassador in Brasilia since January 2025, when Elizabeth Bagley left the post, with the end of Joe Biden’s government. Donald Trump government has not yet appointed a new representative.
The US diplomat had already been convened other times to Itamaraty to give explanations of US government decisions and demonstrations regarding the Brazilian government and the Supreme Court.
In these meetings, the US embassy in charge of the US Embassy was received by the Itamaraty Secretary of Europe and North America, the Maria Luiza Escorel ambassador. He had no meetings with Chancellor Mauro Vieira.
One of the first calls of this type occurred days after Trump began to direct his attacks on Brazil. At the time, the American embassy reproduced statements that Bolsonaro and his family were partners, speaking of political persecution against him.
This time, the new publication of the embassy with threats occurred on the same day Escobar met with Vice-President and Minister Geraldo Alckmin (Development, Industry, Commerce and Services) to discuss the tariffs imposed by the government of Donald Trump to the country.
On Thursday, Alckmin said he had presented to the diplomat arguments that the effective fare applied by Brazil to American products is 2.7% and that of the ten products that the US sells most to Brazil, eight have zero fare.
“He is the representative of the United States in Brazil. […] And he came to talk, we clearly said our arguments, “said Alckmin, defending dialogue in negotiations with Americans.
