With the arrival of summer, the images of beaches full of sunshine, extended towels and queues to buy ice cream multiply multiply. But there is a small daily interval where the scenario changes completely. An interval where silence dominates, the seagulls are heard and the sand seems forgotten. A void that is not explained by lack of beauty or infrastructure. Only for the temporary absence of transport.
This is what happens between 10 HE to 12 h at Praia do Ilha do Farol, in Faro. According to the Faro City Council, this beach, located on Culatra Island and accessible only by boat, has a daily standard in July and August that leaves the bathers curious.
All because one of the ferries that leaves Olhão towards the island with the same name reaches 10 heo next only do you do around 12 h. This two -hour interval creates a rare phenomenon of tranquility in one of the most sought after destinations of the Algarve.
An ‘unexpected’ break in the bathing routine
According to the same source, the boat trip, with a duration of about 30 minutes, part of the pier in front of the new door, near the walls of the city of Faro, and also from Olhão. During this route it is possible to observe the fauna of Ria Formosa, where fish, mollusks and crustaceans stand out.
If it arrives in the morning to Farol Island beach, the scenario will be a practically deserted extended sand, even in the months of highest tourism.
Three kilometers of sand and silence
Farol Island Beach extends for about three kilometers. As reported by the Faro Portugal Tourism Portal, most visitors remain in the area next to the iconic Farol do Cabo de Santa Maria, built in 1851. This is the concession area, where there are stalks, sun loungers and save swimmers.
According to the same source, the water is clean and calm in summer, the sand is white and soft and the beach displays the blue flag, which guarantees high standards of quality and safety.
‘Paradise’ between tides and boats
The ‘secret’ of the beach is not in what it offers, but what is temporarily lacking. Between 10 hers at 12 h, there are no new bathers to arrive except those who have their own vessel.
We recommend:
Those who came on the previous boat have already walked to other areas, or are on the side of the village, where various restaurants, beach bars and shadow rental services and nautical support are located, according to Faro City Council.
This pause transforms the beach into a space of contemplation, far from the usual bustle. For those who like silence, it is an unusual opportunity.
Walk to ‘Empty’
The village crossing with white, blue and yellow houses, some still inhabited by fishermen, leads visitors to the beach.
Most settle near the headlight. But those who choose to walk east, as the site explains, finds practically deserted areas. It is precisely in these zones that the impact of the absence of transport feels more intensely.
This is a rare case where access logistics determines the environment. Passenger conditioning flow creates a stroke and emptying cycle that does not depend on meteorology but on the clock.
Beach that represents an exception at the high time
It is this combination of factors that makes Farol Island an exception. Even in the high season, between 10 hers to 12 h, the sea murmurs alone, without the noise of the summer. It is a break that can last shortly, but which offers a different experience to bathers who venture to know this beach.
