The dispute between Congress and the Government about the overthrow of President Lula’s vetoes in a project that can increase the electricity bill is one of the explanations for the mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), to guide the project that sustained the government decree that increased the financial operations tax (IOF), according to home leaders.

Parliamentarians report an irritation from the House with what they considered a Plateau attempt to push to Congress the wear and tear with the future elevation of energy tariffs.

With the overthrow of vetoes last week, Congress maintained, for example, obligation to hire a series of plants. According to government members, the overthrow vetoes impose a total cost of R $ 35.06 billion per year in power tariffs for 15 years.

IOF: Project dispute on light accounts raised tension between government and congress

These numbers irritated parliamentarians, who saw an attempt by the government to hold Congress responsible for a discharge in electricity bills.

Motta’s allies recalled that Lula’s party PT delivered 7 votes from senators and 63 votes from deputies favorable to the fall of one of the main vetoes.

The expansion of malaise added to the fact that a provisional measure, which will also be voted on Wednesday, provides for an increase in collection of up to R $ 20 billion to the government with the facilitation in oil and gas sale in some oil wells. In the understanding of deputies, this bill could compensate for the fall of the IOF.

– We will vote for the project that sustained the decree that increased the IOF and an important measure that helps balance government collection and increases investment in popular housing. The MP, which allows the government to auction oil and surplus gas. What does that mean? More revenue with less taxes, ”said MDB leader Isnaldo Bulhões (AL).

An MP that is being managed by the government to reduce the impacts of veto’s overthrow is also poorly evaluated by Congress.

“The new IOF decree brings necessary adjustments for the execution of the budget according to the fiscal framework approved by Congress. In the dialogue with Congress, the government has removed adjustments that would focus on other operations,” said Government Minister of Institutional Relations, Gleisi Hoffmann on social networks.

Since Hugo Motta has signaled to the advancement of projects that overthrow the increase in IOF, the government tries to open negotiations and sent a provisional measure providing for new actions. Parliamentarians, however, see the proposal as a way to delay the discussion and maintain the IOF charging for longer.

– My understanding is that the government is not showing interest in taking spending containment and expenses. From the speech from behind, to this day, nothing concrete has been done. So it seems to me that if the government wants to remain inert, Congress should take the initiative to do so, ”said Deputy Claudio Cajado (PP-BA).
