The spokesmen of the five judicial associations that have summoned have been estimated to follow up on approximately 75%. This number, in the words of Sergio Oliva, spokesman for the Francisco de Vitoria Judicial Association, responds to an estimate of the emails received in the two mailboxes enabled so that the judges and prosecutors communicate if they were going to exercise their right to strike already the data offered by some dean judges. The percentage does not include professionals who are low, permission or vacation. The spokesman has not contributed absolute figures of monitoring or the number of judgments affected by the strike.
Judicial sources in Madrid have pointed out to El País “an apparent normality” within its courts during the first day of the break. In those of Plaza de Castilla, for example, no incidents and many planned views have been made without delays. At the National Court, the two great trials planned for this Tuesday (on a line of investigation of the Punic case and the view against the daughters of the mayor of Marbella for drug trafficking) have also developed normally.
Due to the eight plants of the Great Judicial Building of Plaza de Castilla, the phrases between the officials on the heat wave and the unknown of what will happen in the next few days. Oliva, from AJFV, has apologized during the press conference for the “damages” that citizens may have for the strike and has stated that “never” wanted to reach such an extent. He also regretted that the Ministry of Justice has not contacted them to try to “distrust the strike” of the next few days. “That the employer does not try to avoid the strike seems inconceivable,” Oliva has maintained. The spokeswoman of the Professional Association of the Magistracy, María Jesús del Barco, and Dean of the Courts of Plaza de Castilla, has described as “unfortunate” the having to reach a strike and explained that, depending on the reaction of the government and the monitoring of the break, they will meet this Friday to agree on the following steps. However, he has ruled out that the strike becomes indefinite.
Both the State Attorney General’s Office and other communication cabinets of the courts do not have data on the suspended causes and the effects of the break. There is no official follow -up, as indicated, because last Thursday, the Plenary of the Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and did not recognize the call. However, the CGPJ has published on Tuesday a note in which it states that “it is recorded that the Ministry of Justice has addressed a communication to the government secretaries of the judicial bodies – which depend on this ministerial department – to request all the lawyers of the Administration of Justice with a relationship of the actions and accusations with the celebration provided in these days and that they are suspended by the absence of the judges.
Sources from the Ministry of Justice affirm “respecting the actions convened by the different judicial and fiscal associations”, but reiterate “the need for a reform” that modernizes the judicial and fiscal careers. Within these modifications, they include scholarships, something for which the ship has declared to be in favor, although it has questioned that a reform of the Organic Law is needed to be incorporated, since “they carry active one or two years”, without this reform. Miguel Tellado, spokesman of the PP in Congress, has solidarity with the judges and prosecutors who initiate a strike “to defend judicial independence and the rule of law.”
Barcelona is another example of that “apparent normality” in the stoppage: the judicial complex of Ciutat de la Justícia is living the usual trajin of other days of lawyers, writings and files. In the Courts of Seville the presence of prosecutors and judges on Tuesday had dropped compared to recent weeks, but the first day of strike has coincided with the entrance in July. The judges and prosecutors will strike from this Tuesday until Thursday in protest for two legislative reforms promoted by the Ministry of Justice: which provides changes in the form of access to both careers and the one that modifies the statute that regulates the Prosecutor’s Office to adapt it to the law that will leave the instruction of the criminal cases to the prosecutors.
