A group of experts (who) tasked with finding the origin of the pandemic failed to give a definitive answer, as stated in its final report, released these days. Scientists remain uncertain about how the pandemic began, which is the worst health crisis of the last century.
The team’s president, Marietzi Wender, stressed in a press conference that most scientific data argue the assumption that the new Koronai had moved to humans from animals. This conclusion was also made in 2021 by his first group of experts who, who estimated that the virus probably spread from humans through an intermediate animal.
Lack of data and inability to investigate laboratory accident
However, despite more than three years of investigations, the team failed to obtain the necessary data from the Chinese government to evaluate whether the pandemic was caused by a laboratory accident. Wender said that despite repeated demands for hundreds of genetic sequences and detailed bio -safety information, these data was not granted, so that the laboratory leak case could not be investigated or excluded. At the same time, he described this case as “very speculative” and “non -scientific”.
Unanimity
The team of 27 members did not end up unanimously, as one member resigned and three more called for their names to be removed from the report. In addition, no evidence was found to prove that the -COV -2 virus had been created in a laboratory, nor evidence that it had spread before December 2019 outside China.
Its general manager, Tedros Antanom, stressed that it is a “moral check” to determine the origin of the virus, as the Covid -9 has claimed the lives of at least 20 million people and has caused huge economic and social upheavals worldwide.
Reactions and political dimensions
The Chinese government has repeatedly rejected the laboratory accident case, proposing that research on origin is expanded to other countries. At the same time, researchers have drawn a list of animals that probably transmitted the virus to humans, such as Rakun Dogs, Civet cats and bamboo rats.
Finally, the hypothesis of the origin of the pandemic remains open, as the lack of adequate scientific data makes it impossible to definitively answer, leaving the scientific community and the global community waiting for further revelations.
