Often in our kitchen there are bananas, which are already too mature and we wonder what to do with them. It turns out that we can use them to prepare ketchup. Contrary to appearances, it is a great addition to many dishes, including burgers or sandwiches. We suggest how to do it to get a delicious sweet and picranty sauce.
The recipe for banana ketchup is derived from Filipino cuisine, where it has been practiced for years and is as popular as a traditional tomato product. In addition, this recipe can be very useful for people who are allergic to tomatoes.
What’s more, it’s a great idea for the use of overripe. Thanks to this, we not only do not throw them out, but also gain a tasty addition to dishes. To prepare it, we will need:
- 1 onion,
- 1 tablespoon of soy sauce,
- 2 cloves of garlic,
- 2 mature bananas,
- 1 teaspoon of sweet pepper,
- 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar,
- half a teaspoon of grated ginger,
- half a teaspoon of salt,
- 2 teaspoons of brown sugar,
- 1 tablespoon of oil,
- 50 ml of water,
- A pinch of hot peppers.
The preparation of banana ketchup is not difficult. The first step is to cut the onion and garlic finely, and then warm up the oil in a small pan. Fry the onion on it for about 3 minutes, and then add ginger and garlic to it. We mix everything and make sure that it warms well, but not to burn.
Then peel the bananas and crush them with a fork. We transfer them to the pan, mix and add soy sauce, vinegar and add spices and sugar. Water everything with water and cook on low heat for about 5 minutes until the mass becomes thick. Then mix the mass with a blender and put the finished ketchup into a jar. We can store it in the fridge for up to a week.
