The European Parliament (EP) will negotiate next week and subsequently vote on a proposal to declare the EU European Commission (EC) under the leadership of Ursula von der Leyen, Informed on Wednesday of political group leaders, chairwoman Roberta Metsolová. This was confirmed for TASR and DPA sources familiar with the matter.
The proposal was submitted by MEP Gheorghe Piperea of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) and according to available information received the necessary support of at least one tenth of all Members. The proposal allegedly The MEPs from ECR, Patriots for Europe, Europe’s sovereign nations and non -assessments were supported.
According to TASR information, the debate should be made on Monday and vote The proposal should be on Thursday during the plenary session in Strasbourg.
MEPs blame the EC of non-transparency and bad administration, especially in connection with its procedure during the Covid-19 pandemic. They point out, for example, to negotiations on billion -dollar purchase of vaccines. They should have been partially taking place through SMS messages between the chairwoman of the Commission and the CEO of Pfizer Albert Bourl. Despite the decision of the EU Court of Justice, which acknowledged the right of journalist New York Times to access these reports, the EC has not yet published them.
If the EP had approved the proposal to declare distrust, the EC as a whole, including Von Der Leyen, and all 26 commissioners, would have to withdraw. This scenario is also considered unlikely, because it does not have sufficient support for MEPs.
