United States President Donald Trump signed a decree on Thursday (3) to increase the fees charged from foreign visitors in US national parks, the White House said.

According to the statement, additional revenue will generate hundreds of millions of dollars for parks conservation and maintenance projects.

The decree guides the interior department, responsible for the National Parks Service, to increase entry rates paid by visitors from abroad, but does not specify the value of the readjustment or when it will come into force.

It also determines that the parks service give priority to access to US residents in reserve systems or authorizations.

The government states that US citizens end up paying more than tourists to visit because, in addition to entry rates, they contribute to taxes that fund the costs of national parks.

The executive order was issued when the Donald Trump government proposed to cut more than $ 1 billion from the budget budget for the 2026 fiscal year. This represents a third reduction in relation to the previous fiscal year budget.

The federal have already aggravated the scarcity of staff in the national parks across the country.
