President Trump announces the upcoming negotiations on the sale of Tiktok. The agreement between the US and China is almost finished, says Trump after postponing a ban on the Chinese platform.
US President Donald Trump counts on the negotiations with China on the sale of Tiktok will start next week. TASR reports this based on Reuters report.
Trump said on Friday (4 July) that on Monday (7. 7.) or Tuesday (8 July), negotiations will start with China on a possible agreement on Tiktok. He added that in the US, they have already agreed on the sale of a popular social network to share short videos.
“I think we’ll start negotiations with China on Monday or Tuesday, probably with President Si Jin-pching or one of his representatives, but the agreement is almost done,” Trump told reporters.
The ban is postponed again
In June, Trump has extended the postponement of the application of a ban on the Tictok in the United States for the third time, this time until 17 September. The postponement is to provide his administration to provide more time to negotiations on the sale of the platform owned by the Chinese company Bytiedance, the US owner.
Already in the spring, an agreement was being prepared to separate the American activities of Tiktok into a new company, which would be owned by the majority and operated US investors. However, the sale stopped after China signaled that it would not approve it. This happened after Trump reported high duties to Chinese goods.
Trump said that the United States would probably need Beijing to approve the agreement.
