Emmanuel Macron argues that the EU acts with unity and reinforces its determination to protect European interests

The president of France, criticized on Saturday (12) the US decision to impose 30% tariffs on European products from August 1. In a publication on social network X, the agent said he shared the “strong disapproval” already expressed by other authorities, such as the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

According to Macron, the measure was announced after weeks of negotiations between the US and the European Commission. He argued that the block acts with unity and reinforces its determination to protect European interests. The French President also requested the acceleration of EU countermeasures, using all available instruments, including those provided for in the anticking regulation, approved in November 2023, to react to coercive economic practices adopted by countries outside the bloc.

Macron also stated that France fully supports the European Commission in negotiations, which should intensify in the coming weeks. The goal, according to him, is to achieve an acceptable agreement for both parties until August 1, based on mutual respect between commercial partners and integrated value chains.
