Hurry at reserving a flight or distraction when filling out a form can be more expensive than the ticket itself. For those traveling with Ryanair, even the smallest errors in the passenger name can entail significant costs. Although the airline allows changes, there are strict deadlines, specific rules and little known rates that can catch off guard travelers.
According to Ryanair, all reservations are subject to passenger data verification, and any error in the name, whether in their own name or nickname, must be corrected in advance. But not all corrections have the same treatment. If detected shortly after reservation, there is a margin for free correction. Otherwise, there are additional costs.
Free changes? Only if they are made in the first 48 hours
The airline allows, at no cost, the exchange between the name and the nickname of a passenger up to 48 hours after the reservation. Situations such as the exchange of the name “Smith John” for “John Smith” are considered admissible during this period, as long as they involve no more than three characters by name.
According to the same source, this free correction applies only once per passenger and as long as it does not fully change the original name. If the 48 hours have passed or the modification involves more than three characters, the change is no longer free and is subject to fees.
How long is it possible to change?
The full name changes can be made online up to 24 hours before flight departure. If the passenger prefers to directly contact the customer support service team, this change can be made up to two hours before the flight, but the cost will be higher. According to the Irish airline, the correct name should be included on all flight flights, not just changing in one of the segments.
How much does the change cost?
The online change rate is 115 euros per passenger, so this error can be more expensive than the plane ticket. If the process is done through a Ryanair agent, the value increases to 160 euros. These rates apply by passenger and reservation. The amount must be paid at the time of change and, after confirmation, the new itinerary is sent by email.
We recommend:
Note that the airline does not require the medium name, according to nickname or compound nicknames are on the departure card. This information, while generating doubts among passengers, is not necessary for boarding purposes, provided that the main name is correct and corresponds to the identification document.
Learn how the process works
To make the change, the passenger must access your Myryanair account, choose the reserve in question and select the “Change a Name” option. After editing the name, the system presents the cost of the operation. If the passenger agrees, the payment page follows. Once confirmed, the new version of the itinerary is immediately available.
According to the company’s publication, errors must be corrected as soon as possible. If the name on the ticket does not coincide with that of the document, the passenger may be prevented from boarding, even if he has checked in and has valid boarding card.
A change that can cost more than the flight
By way of comparison, in many short distance routes, the amount charged by the name change may exceed the cost of the ticket, especially in promotional tariffs. It adds that these rates are applied as part of the general reserve management policy, common among low -cost companies.
