Summer nature now offers us generous gifts in the form of blackberries, rose hips or raspberries. But not everywhere you can just tear them. Where can you collect without worrying and where you are at risk of penalty?
Summer is literally a paradise for nature lovers. In the woods, blackberries ripen, rose hips are blushing on the edges of the meadows and sometimes raspberry in raspberries full of juicy fruits. Collection is one of the most popular Czech hobby free, not only for the joy of catch, but also because of health benefits. For example, blackberries contain vitamins C and K, flavonoids and substances with anti -inflammatory effects. But it has a hook. Not all forests are intended for collection.
Where can you collect and where not?
In the Czech Republic, the simple rule applies according to the Forestry Act: You can enter the forest at your own risk and collect forest fruits for your own consumption, without the owner’s consent and free of charge. This applies to state forests and for most private, unless they are separately marked as inaccessible. But there is also a commitment. You must not damage plants, tear off shrubs or disrupt the forest environment.
Another situation occurs when the areas are fenced or explicitly marked with a ban on entry. Even if the blackberry jungle grew behind the fence, you must not be there without the owner’s permission. You should also not collect in orchards or plantations where the fruits are commercially grown, even if they are seemingly in nature and available. This is also considered to be theft.
If you decide to continue selling fruits, for example on the market or via an ad, it is not enough to tell you that you have found them in the forest. You have to prove that you have the right to do so. For example, you need a forest owner’s consent or proof of land ownership. Sale without permission is no longer an innocent trip to the countryside, but a violation of the law.
With respect for nature and people
In order not to damage nature or your stomach, follow a few principles. Collect the fruits by hand and only ripe, use clean containers, preferably wicker or earthenware, collect the morning when the fruits are dry and fresh. Do not use combs or rakes that destroy shrubs and prevent further crop.

Although blackberries grow higher than blueberries, it is always before consumption. They can be polluted with dust, animal feces or microorganisms that are not visible. The risk of infection, for example, by fox tapeworms or other parasites is low, but not impossible!
It is tempting to fill the baskets to the brim, but also think of others. Whether people or animals. The natural food chain needs fruits in the forest and for animals. So collect with the degree of and knowing that nature is not a self -service without rules.
Collection of fruits in the forest is a really beautiful tradition and a sustainable way to enrich your diet. But in order to remain so, we must approach nature and forest owners with respect. Little and a fragrant basket full of blackberries will not only remain a tasty reward, but your conscience will remain clean.
