Do not wash these potted plants and do not sprinkle even in summer. You will destroy them quickly

During the holidays, many people sprinkle and wash their plants to bring them relief in hot weather. It may seem beneficial to us, but it is not always a good idea. Some species tolerate contact with water badly, which can lead to diseases and weakening of plants. Therefore, before we reach for the sprayer or treat the flowers a shower, let’s check which specimens tolerate it and which do not.

We often sprinkle plants, especially in summer, to increase the level of humidity around them. However, this is not a good solution for every species. The same applies to washing specimens, e.g. in the shower.

It turns out that In poorly ventilated rooms, the water may be lying on the leaves, especially in the evening, when the temperature falls. As a result, this can lead to the development of bacterial and fungal diseases.

What’s more, Spring or washing plants with cool water, can cause them stresswhich weakens specimens and reduces their resistance and pests. In addition, soaking them with hard tap water often It leaves unsightly deposits on the leaves.

Therefore, sprinkling or washing plants is not always a good idea. First of all, this should not be done in the case of sick, weakened and infected specimens. In addition, the flowers that should not be soaked include:

  • Plants with velvety leaves – These species do not like spraying and soaking. I am talking about specimens that have velvet, “velor” leaves. The water on them can cause unsightly spots and coloring.
  • Plants covered with a cutter – These are e.g. African violets or three times. These specimens have delicate hair on the leaves. Therefore, spraying them may result in the accumulation of moisture, which as a result leads to rotting and the development of various types of diseases.
  • Plants during flowering – Do not sprinkle or soak, because it is the most delicate element of the plant. This is due to the fact that high humidity could lead to faster wilting or even rotting inflorescences.
  • Plants covered with wax raid – These are, for example, thickosa and most succulents. Spring and soaking them can damage the wax protective coating they have on their surface. This will result in excessive water loss and the weakening of the plant’s condition.
  • Plants with watery shoots and leaves – We include, among others Begonia, three times and herbalists. The water lying on them leads to the development of diseases, and in particular to gray mold.

However, if we still have doubts whether our plants can be sprinkled or washed, it is worth doing an easy test that will make it easier for us to verify this. Just gently spray the plant and after an hour check if the water has evaporated. In the event that it is not on the leaf, it means that in the case of this specimen, the risk of developing diseases is less.
