Czech teachers work on vacation to compensate for low wages

During school holidays, many teachers in the Czech Republic exchange classrooms for castles, restaurants and even taxis. Despite the perception that teachers take advantage of this period to rest, the reality is quite different for a significant part of the class.

With low wages, many use seasonal work to complement the performance. Lukáš Recht, Physical Education teacher at a basic school in Ondřejov, leads taxis about 40 days on summer holidays.

“I mainly conduct foreigners in Prague, but also Czech citizens. I work between 12 and 13 hours a day and I can earn about 40,000 crowns (1,600 euros) per month.”

As a teacher, Lukáš Recht, receives about 28,000 monthly crowns, the equivalent of 1,100 euros, which is not enough to pay the basic expenses.

Other teachers opt for restoration jobs or holiday camps. Vanesa, teacher and single mother in the Zlin region, works as a table maid from 14h00 to 22h00, half of his vacation.

“I have two children and sometimes it’s hard to reach the end of the month.”

For some, seasonal work is also a passion. Martina Studinská, a 40 -year -old teacher, tourist guide in castles.

“I like history, people and keep contact with children. It’s almost like continuing in my profession.”

Martina likes the summer work, but admits that she needs this extra performance to be able to enjoy vacation or cultural activities.

Salary instability is pushing young people away from the profession. Luboš Zajic, from the Association of Basic Schools, and Jiří Zajíček, from the Union of School Associations believe that there is no motivation to teach.

“The problem with attracting qualified teachers is getting worse. The government has promised, but is not fulfilling.”

Education Minister Mikuláš Bek acknowledges that the promise has not been fulfilled due to structural changes in 2021, but ensures that the government is trying to solve the problem.

Czech teachers continue to gain far below the European average. In countries like Germany, teachers receive more than twice as their Czech colleagues.

Although the president of the Union of Teachers, František Dobšík, consider that the cases of extra work are exceptional, the reality on the ground shows a growing tendency of teachers to seek alternative sources of income a direct consequence of the devaluation of the profession.

Horror movie with a hatch parent teacher at liubliana school

A horror movie created by 9th grade students of a Liublian school in Slovenia is generating strong controversy between parents and educational authorities. The short film, aired during the holiday party with the Oscar theme, shows a bloody teacher to pursue and “kill” students with a chainsaw, a staging that many considered extremely bad and completely inappropriate.

About two minutes long, the film features images of blood -covered students, lying in wallets and corridors, while a group of girls tries to escape the murderous teacher. The staging, although fictitious and inserted in the genre of terror, was received with shock by several in charge of education, who considered it “unacceptable recreation of a school massacre”.

“We watched a teacher killing children in a movie. This is unacceptable, especially at a time when similar tragedies occur in neighboring countries.”

Marija Fabčič, director of the Department of Preschool Education of the Ljubljana City Council, also disapproved of the horror movie.

“I am speechless. I consider this approach totally unacceptable and inadequate, especially at this time. It was a mistake of judgment of the teachers, which cannot be repeated.”

Despite the controversy, some parents defend the project and praise the efforts and creativity of the students. A mother of the mothers stated that the films, which included genres such as comedy and terror, were well received by many and that the scariest moments even laughed in the audience.

At the end of the celebration, each student received a “school Oscar” for the characteristic that best represented his work.

The school board has already taken action and assured parents that similar situations will not happen again. For some parents the guarantee is insufficient, they require the suspension of the teachers involved and the school’s own board.

“They took me everything: money, passport, mobile phone. The doors were locked”

A new support site for sect victims and coercive groups was launched in the Netherlands, with the aim of supporting those who lived traumatic experiences in contexts of spiritual and psychological manipulation.

For 18 years, Geertje was part of a religious worship during a period when he was particularly vulnerable. It all started after a marriage marked by abuse and oppression.

“I had five children, not always willingly. I couldn’t say no. I was very afraid of my husband.”

It was in this context that he heard of God’s Church, led by a man named Sipke Vrieswijk. Welcomed with sympathy and sweet words, Geertje felt accepted and convinced that it was “the will of God” to be there.

“They were very nice to me. They said there was a prophet there, and the services were wonderful.”

At first, her husband and five children accompanied her. Geertje hoped the prophet would help her husband change.

“They said the tired women could stay there a few days to rest. I stayed, and he returned with the kids. They gave me drugs. I felt in the sky.”

The welcoming environment has given way to total control. After three months, the drugs were abruptly removed. Geertje fell into an emotional void and became the subject of physical, emotional and sexual abuse.

“The reins were tightened. I could do nothing anymore. They got me all: money, passport, mobile phone. It was exhausted. The doors were locked.”

The exit was only possible when the service leader was arrested. Later, Geertje rebuilt his life, became a music teacher and met EEF, the man who helped her completely free himself from the influence of the sect.

Now support who suffered like her. The new site in the Netherlands represents an important step in giving voice to the victims and offering them a security network.

Indiana Jones da Arte solves theft with over 10 years

An art detective has solved a theft of historical documents that has gone unnoticed over a decade. Returned artifacts include a report from the first meeting of the Dutch Eastern Indian Company, dated 1602 and classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a naval battle diary in 1641 written by Michiel de Ruyter, one of the largest naval heroes in the Netherlands.

Arthur Brand is a recognized art detective from the Netherlands. It has already recovered paintings from Van Gogh and stolen pieces from various historical institutions. Fame throughout Europe has already earned him the title of “Indiana Jones of Art.” This time, Arthur Brand resolved a theft no one knew that happened.

The detective received the call from a stranger who asked him to evaluate some documents found by emptying a family member. As soon as he looked at Caixa that was handed over to him, Arthur Brand had no doubt of the importance of the documents and warned the police.

The case became more unusual when it was realized that no one had given theft. Those responsible for the National Archives of the Netherlands, one of the most important in the world, thought the pieces, stolen in 2015, had never left their facilities.

“It is a treasure of Hurly History. The report of the first meeting of the Dutch Eastern Indian Company marks the beginning of the Golden Age. Michiel de Ruyter’s logbook describes his first naval experience, they are true masterpieces that were in that box.”

Historical documents, which report an important part of the country’s history, have already been returned from the National Archives of the Netherlands.

Bear bone can change the way we understand the history of humanity

Can a 60,000 bone change what we know about Neanderthals? The answer may be in the new exhibition of the Slovenia National Museum. The flute found in a cave in Divje Babi is, according to a group of Slovenian archaeologists, the oldest musical instrument in the world.

Since its discovery, the archaeological play generated controversy: would be the bone holes made by humans or marks left by animals? After 30 years of investigation, the theory that the holes were made by animals was discarded. Boštjan Laharnar, prehistory curator of the National Slovenia Museum, argues that there is no reason to doubt.

“The case is, in my opinion, completely proven. Scientific research has proved that it is a human artifact and, more than that, a musical instrument.”

The musician Boštjan Gombač has already tried the flute and managed to play four distinct shades.

For Slovenia, there is now another challenge: transforming the relic into a national symbol and a lever for tourism, culture and economy.

Divje Babi’s Neanderthal flute is the central point of the new exhibition of the Slovenia National Museum. Mateja Kos Zabel, the museum’s director, highlights the importance and potential of this discovery.

“It is our duty to promote this flute, put it on the map and conscience of people.”

What if Slovenia now had the boldness to perform to the world as the cradle of music?

Young people protect the future from Amazonia

A boat trip, 11 manatee pups, 18 liberated turtles and a mission: protecting the wildlife from Amazonia. The project joins this summer veterinary medicine students from all over Brazil.

In the heart of the Amazon rainforest, in the west of the state of Pará, young students live an adventure that will never forget. On board a boat, they travel through rivers and woods to the Igarapé do Costa, where the floating base of the manner fish project is found, a true sanctuary for one of the most threatened species in the region.

In direct contact with nature in the Amazon, they learn to take care, feed and prepare the man, aquatic mammals, to return to nature. Debora Brach is a student of São Paulo and lives the adventure with emotion and enthusiasm.

“I never imagined being in water with wild animals. The manatees are wonderful. Being with them is amazing.”

This experience is much more than a learning opportunity, it is also a work of rehabilitation and awareness. According to veterinarian Jairo Moura, the animals are in a phase of water acclimatization, with very different characteristics of captivity water. This process is essential to ensure your survival in freedom. The student Cecília Videira highlights the importance of environmental education.

“Many riverside communities do not have the same affection for animals. Through education, we can arouse this love and ensure more effective conservation.”

In addition to the bs, 18 turtles, tracajás and amazon turtles, were returned to the natural habitat. The moment of the celebration hides many years of work from associations with Zoounama. For 15 years in the region, Hippocrates Chalkidis recalls that there is always a long process of rescue and recovery.

“After six, seven years of work, we are showing the final process of rehabilitation of these man-old fish. Now a new stage begins: liberation and a new life for these animals.”

This action with veterinary medicine students represents a giant step in protecting biodiversity in Amazon and an inspiration to all who believe it is possible to change the world, one animal at a time.
