At the 25th bilateral summit of the European Union and China, which took place on Thursday in Beijing, the leaders of both parties on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the anniversary of the adoption of the Paris Agreement agreed on a joint statement in the field of climate change. They are committed to intensifying cooperation and measures to address the situation, TASR informs.

“We again emphasize that in today’s unstable and turbulent international situation it is extremely important that all countries, especially the great economies, maintain the continuity and stability of their policies and intensify efforts to fight climate change,” says a common opinion.

Both parties acknowledged that strengthening cooperation between the EU and China in the climate area is of fundamental importance for the well -being of the population on both sides, as well as to maintain multilateralism and progress in the field of global climate management.

They pointed out that the Framework Convention of the United Nations on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement are the cornerstone of international cooperation in this area and their goals need to be met. They are committed to turning climate goals into specific results through systematic policies and measures.

At the same time, the leaders said that the Green Transformation is a key part of the EU and China partnership, and both sides have a solid basis and a wide space for cooperation.

They also stated that they want to support Brazil in the organization of this year’s COP30 climate conference and contribute to ambitious, fair and inclusive results, as well as help speeding up the global extension of renewable energy sources and ensuring access to quality green technologies for developing countries.

Furthermore, they made a commitment to submit new climatic targets before November COP30 by 2035 covering all sectors and greenhouse gases in accordance with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. They also want to deepen bilateral cooperation in areas such as energy transformation, methane emissions, carbon markets or green technologies.
