Official visit from João Lourenço to Portugal: Angolan President arrives on Thursday to Lisbon

Angolan President João Lourenço arrives in Lisbon today for a visit with an official program only Friday and Saturday, in a coincident with the debate around the recent approval in the Portuguese Parliament of new provisions of the Foreign Law.

Angolan President João Lourenço arrives on Thursday late in the afternoon to Lisbon for a visit with an official program only Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, João Lourenço visits, in the morning, the Palace of Belém, where will be received by the PresidentMarcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

The Angolan head of state then goes to the prime minister’s official residence, where will meet with Luís Montenegrofollowed by a work lunch.

In the afternoon, João Lourenço has scheduled Encounters with Portuguese businessmenin the Palace of Needs, before the signing of four bilateral cooperation instruments and the visit to the Assembly of the Republic, where a Meeting with the President of ARJosé Pedro Aguiar Branco.

The Angolan President is the guest of honor of an official dinner offered by his Portuguese counterpart at Ajuda Palace, rather gathered as an acting president of the African Union, with the group of African ambassadors believed in Lisbon.

On Saturday, the second day of the visit, João Lourenço and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa participate, at the University of School of Business and Economics, in Cascais, in the “dialogue between presidents”, under the Euroaafrican Forum 2025.

Four bilateral cooperation instruments signed

This official visit will be four bilateral cooperation instruments signed: A memorandum of understanding between the two agencies, Portugal and Angola, promoting foreign investment, and a second memorandum of understanding between the National Land Transportation Agency (ANTT) and IP Engenharia (IPE) – Infrastructura de Portugal Group.

The other bilateral instruments are a cooperation protocol between the Civil Protection and Firefighters Service of the Republic of Angola and the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority of Portugal and a partnership protocol between the Ministry of Interior of Angola and Camões – Institute of Cooperation and Portuguese Language for the implementation of the Technical Cooperation Program – Police and Civil Protection, for the 2025-2026 biennium.
