Even on Sunday, Greece struggles with large forest fires that destroy houses and forced the inhabitants to evacuate. Czech firefighters also participated in the fight against the flames, while aircraft should arrive from Italy during the day, reports AFP and DPA reports.
The most devastating fires were active on Sunday morning on the Peloponnese Peninsula, as well as on the islands of Eubo and Kythera. Aircraft and helicopters deployed for extinguishing have continued to work since dawn.
Meteorologists assume that a strong wind that contributes to the spread of fire should weaken during the day in many areas. However, on the island of Kythera, the “disturbing” weather conditions continue. The inhabitants of the island were challenged in the early morning hours of evacuation.
“Houses, hives, olive trees burned,” the local representative of the local medium told the local medium. “There is currently a monastery in direct threat,” he added, adding that half of the island is devastated. With fires on the island, which broke out on Saturday morning and led to the evacuation of the popular tourist beach, dozens of firefighters fight with the help of three helicopters and two aircraft.
Fires commit extensive damage
