Despite being considered one of the safest destinations in the world, Japan has recorded cases that are raising concerns between international travelers. A tourist tourist in the country lived one of the most distressing episodes of his life when, by returning to the hotel room in Tokyo, he found a man hidden under the bed. According to The Guardian newspaper, the incident occurred in March this year and left the traveler in shock, with symptoms of prolonged anxiety and no clear answers from local authorities. After sharing history with the media, other women revealed similar experiences.
Coming from Thailand, where he resides, the woman decided to visit Japan for a few days on vacation. On the night of the incident, after dinner at a Ramen restaurant, he returned to the room. Already lying on the bed, she began to feel a strange odor and decided to see if it would be something out of the normal under the bed. To his surprise, two wide eyes returned his gaze in the dark.
An unknown in the room
According to his testimony, the man came out under the bed and prevented her from reaching the door. He exudes intensely, which may have caused the unusual smell sense moments earlier. Panic, he began to scream, unable to move, fearing his own life. “I was still. My brain only repeated: this can not happen,” he recalled, quoted by the same source.
The woman described the intruder as an Asian man, between 20 and 30, with bowl hair, black and slightly obese clothing. After a few seconds of tension, the stranger fled the room, running down the hotel corridor.
Support arrived from other guests
Unable to contact the reception over the phone, the tourist continued to scream. Some guests heard the screams and knocked on the door. It was just with a dressed nightgown, which made the situation even more difficult when asking for help.
Two male tourists were the first to appear and helped him calm down to the arrival of the concierge and the police. According to the above-mentioned source, the agents found a USB cable and a power bank under the bed, leading the woman to suspect that the man could have tried to grab her at night.
An investigation with few answers
Despite the severity of the case, the victim states that the authorities treated the episode with apparent indifference. “They didn’t even ask me for his description,” he lamented. Police collected their data and promised to send a report, but indicated that the absence of security cameras in the hotel would make any investigation difficult.
Unable to spend the night in that place, he sought refuge in another hotel. He asked an employee to accompany her on inspection of the new room and failed to sleep, staying in contact with friends and family until morning.
Psychological consequences and struggle for justice
Returning to Thailand, the tourist confessed to feeling symptoms of anxiety and posttraumatic stress. Despite the difficulties in following the state of the investigation, he says he did not give up. “Since I told my story, many women have shared similar experiences. It’s scary,” he said, quoted by the newspaper.
At the same time, he also received offensive messages, some accusing her of lying or trying to denigrate Japan. However, it ensures that your only goal is to seek justice and alert others. “Women are already concerned about their security. And this case shows how often these concerns are still ignored.”
