Tremor on the east coast of Russia caused tsunami alert and left injured in the country
The 8.8 magnitude earthquake on the night of Thursday (29.Jul.2025) –Mattery on Wednesday (30.Jul) at local time, is the strongest recorded in the Kamchatka seismic zone since 1952. The Fort Tremor caused tsunami alert in various regions and left injured in the country, according to Russian agency. “Undoubtedly, this is an extraordinary event ”said Kamchatka authorities.
The epicenter was about 125 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a city with 165,000 inhabitants on the Kamchatka Peninsula, a region of intense seismic activity. The tremor was recorded at a depth of 19.3 km.
About 2,700 people, including nearly 600 children, were evacuated to safe places on the curilla islands due to the threat of tsunami, emergency services informed.
A wave of tsunami hit the coastal zone of the city of Severo-Kurilsk, on the island, and residents were directed to a higher location, the Sakhalin government told the government to Tass. In the Yelizovsky district in Kamchatka, near Vodopadnaya Meteorological Station, a tsunami was recorded with waves from 3 to 4 meters high.
In total, 8 earthquakes with magnitude of more than 5 were recorded on the coast of Kamchatka in one hour. The tremors took place at depths of 7 to 100 km. Experts predict secondary tremors with a magnitude of up to 7.5 for at least 1 month.
The 8.8 magnitude earthquake has placed several countries over. They are: Japan, Taiwan, China, the United States, Mexico, Chile and Ecuador. There are in the US states of Hawaii, Alaska, California, and also in Japan, China, Philippines and Canada. According to meteorologists, waves can reach 3 meters high on the morning of this 4th (30.Jul.2025), in various regions of Hawaii.
