Colombia on Wednesday issued a warning against the tsunami and ordered the evacuation of the inhabitants of the coastal areas along the Pacific Ocean. A similar warning was issued by Canada for most coastal areas of British Columbia. Measures have taken countries as a result of an earthquake on the Russian Peninsula Kamchatka, TASR writes according to AFP and BBC reports.
Colombian National Catastrophist Management Unit on Platform X said on Wednesday that the tsunami warning is issued for Chocó and Narino regions in the west of Colombia. “We recommend preventive evacuation of beaches and low -lying coastal areas,” added the Colombian authority. According to the BBC, waves in Colombia could reach a height of up to one meter.
Intervention of Kamchatka and its consequences
The residents of the Canadian province of British Columbia in the west of the country recommend the authorities to avoid the coast of the ocean, follow official instructions and wait for the warning to be canceled.
The US National Ocean and Atmosphere (NOAA) warned against the wave of the tsunami and countries in the southern Pacific, including Papua Guinea, Solomon Islands or Vanuatu.
The earthquake with magnitude 8.8 hit Kamchatka at night on Wednesday and claimed several injured there. The tsunami wools greater than one meter have already hit both Japan’s coast and Hawaii. No major damage has been reported so far.
China, Mexico, Peru and Ecuador have also been a warning against the tsunami.
