(Reuters)-Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said on Wednesday that he has sought contact with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to discuss the imposition of 50% tariffs on Brazilian products by the US and that a conversation can happen when the American returns from travel to Europe.
In an interview with journalists in Brasilia, Haddad stated that Bessent’s staff has asked him to be patient, as the secretary is in Europe by conducting commercial negotiations with other countries.
50% rates on Brazil, announced on July 9 by US President Donald Trump, are expected to take effect next Friday, August 1.
