Πανικός σε όλο τον Ειρηνικό από τα 8,7 Ρίχτερ, τα τσουνάμι και το ηφαίστειο

Memories of disasters that marked the planet, such as that of Fukushima in 2011, was awakened by the colossal 8.7 Richter in its Kamcatka Peninsula, which hit almost all countries that are wet by the Pacific Ocean, and the ecclesiastical ocean.

The earthquake, which is one of the ten most powerful earthquakes ever recorded, had a focal depth of 18 kilometers and occurred at dawn in Greece in a marine area off Kamchatka, caused a tsunami that in some cases exceeded four meters in height.

The earthquake occurred at a point known as the “great breakdown rift”, where the denser Pacific plate slides under North America’s lighter plate, according to scientists. The spot is at the top of what is known as the Ring of Fire, a huge earthquake zone.

The Pacific Plaka is in motion, making the area of the Kamchatka peninsula, off the coast of the Far East of Russia, particularly vulnerable to such seismic vibrations. According to scientists, it cannot be ruled out.

The main earthquake was followed by aftershocks that reached 6.9 Richter, while tsunami warnings in Russia, Japan, China, Hawaii, the West Coast of the US, Central and South America (with Chile at this time in red alarm). Indeed, tsunami waves were recorded in many of the aforementioned areas, and in many cases led to floods and extensive catastrophes in coastal areas.

Fortunately, until these lines were written, there were no reports of human lives (beyond a death of a woman in Japan who lost her life while trying to evacuate), as there was time for the evacuation of the inhabited seaside areas.

As for the earthquake’s focus, the Russian authorities did not report any deaths, but reported damage to buildings. Similarly, no damage or deaths were reported by the explosion of the Kliucevskoy volcano, which is about 450 km north of the regional capital Petrovvlovsk-Kamsacchki and is one of the highest volcanoes in the world. The volcano, according to the United Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences since the explosion, has not stopped launching lava and ash.
