US Treasury Secretary attributed the company’s tariff impact on the use of aluminum in its popular truck line
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent minimized on Thursday (31.Jul.2025) the importance of $ 800 million financial impact related to Ford Motor fees in the 2nd quarter. Suggested that this occurred because of the automaker’s specific manufacture choices.
In an interview with CNBCBessenta attributed Ford’s tariff impact to the use of aluminum by the company on its popular handle line.
“I think there were several circumstances with Ford”Dissing bests. “I believe that the Ford F-150, 250-a number of great pickup trucks-is made of aluminum instead of steel, which is different from other cars. So I think maybe the aluminum rates have affected the company harder.”he added.
The Treasury Secretary characterized Ford’s situation as “Probably idiosyncratic” because of these material choices.
Bessent also stated that the US plan to start negotiations with Canada about metal tariffs. The decision comes after President Donald Trump increases import rates on aluminum in early this summer.
