As companies such as publicly announce it reductions of AI -driven workforce, workers are striving to understand which careers may soon disappear and be outsourced to technology.
A new report from Microsoft researchers who study the occupational implications of the Generative AI offers some clarity.

Although Microsoft has said that high applicability does not automatically mean that these jobs will necessarily be replaced by AI, the list of functions has quickly became viral, with professionals considering them “higher”. This occurs at a time when companies such as IBM will freeze thousands of possible new functions that expect AI to assume over the next 5 years, and UK graduates have been facing the worst job market since 2018, as employers pause hires and use AI to cut costs, says Indeed.
Of course, there are some jobs that will hardly be affected by AI: dredging operators, bridge and enlusted operators, and stations and water treatment systems are among jobs with virtually no exposure to the Generative AI, thanks in part to the requirements of practical equipment.

Still, business leaders like Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said all work will be affected by AI in some way and therefore it is better to accept it.
“All jobs will be affected, and immediately. It’s unquestionable,” Huang said at the Milken Institute’s global conference in May. “You won’t lose your job to an AI, but you’ll lose your job to someone you use.”

A diploma will not save you from the AI jobs revolution
Many of the jobs with great chances of being overcome by AI soon, such as political scientists, journalists, and management analysts, usually require a four -year diploma to get a job. And, as the researchers point out, to have a diploma – which was once considered a foolproof path to career advancement – is no longer a protection against climate change.
“In terms of educational requirements, we find greater applicability of AI for occupations that require a bachelor degree than for occupations with lower requirements,” wrote the researchers, who studied 200,000 real conversations of Copilot users and compared AI performance with occupational data.
On the other hand, there are some careers with low AI exposure, whose demand is growing. The health sector, in particular, is an area that is experiencing this intensely. The home medical care and personal care sector should create the largest number of new jobs in the next decade, according to the US Department of Labor.

At the same time, the researchers recognized that even their findings do not capture the full scope of the AI revolution – and there may be more automation caused by more than just generative technology: “Our measurement is purely about LLMs: other AI applications can certainly affect occupations involving operation and monitoring of machines such as driving trucks.”

“Our research shows that AI supports many tasks, particularly those that involve research, writing and communication, but does not indicate that it can fully perform any specific occupation.
