During an interview in the Podcast’s debut episode, a partnership between Infomoney and The Agribiz, JBS Global CEO Gilberto Tomazoni said there is a very wrong perception of Brazil on the international scene, especially with regard to livestock and environmental preservation.

“It’s very different from what reality is here,” he said. Tomazoni said it is the role of all actors – government, sectoral associations and companies – show what the domestic market has done in this field.

He stressed, for example, that more than 90% of deforestation in the Amazon is illegal, not linked to the formal production chain and that the current environmental legislation throughout the Brazilian territory is of good quality. “Today, we know that with this integration-farming-forest integration, instead of emitting carbon, you kidnap carbon,” he said.

COP30, for him, will be held in November this year in Belém-PA, will be an opportunity to present concrete examples of this practice. “Just talking helps, but it’s not enough,” he added.

During the conversation, Tomazoni quoted the example of the Roncador farm, which previously issued 15,000 tons of CO2 and today kidnap 230,000 tons. There, the system is integrated: soy, corn and cattle, focusing on efficiency and sustainability. He stressed that, when observing the system as a whole, it is possible to realize that the ox consumes carbon, fixed by the grass, and transforms it into protein. “The big producers already do this. The challenge is to climb to the little ones.”

Tomazoni stressed that Brazil does not have to deforest more to produce more. “Our flock is twice the American herd, and they produce even a little more carbon than us,” he noted, pointing out that there is still room for genetic evolution, management and food. “We have to show this. Brazil is doing very well the crop-livestock-forest integration.”

Continues after advertising

The “Root of Business” program premiered on Friday, August 1, and is the result of a partnership between Infoomoney and the site specializing in agribusiness The Agribusiness. The goal is to bridge a bridge between the sector – one of the most important in the Brazilian economy – with the capital market.
