The Deputy Secretary of State of the United States, Christopher Landau, criticized the decision of Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court (STF), who determined (PL). In an X publication on Monday (4), the diplomat accused Moraes of promoting a “judicial dictatorship” in Brazil.
“The minister’s unbridled Orwellian impulses are dragging his court and his country to the unknown territory of a judicial dictatorship,” Landau wrote. According to him, Bolsonaro’s “alleged crime” would be “to criticize the Minister Moraes,” which the magistrate would now be dealing as “obstruction of justice.”
Landau’s statements expand the tension between the two countries after the sanction imposed by the end of July, based on magnitsky law.

Enlarged measures
Moraes’s decision, also published on Monday, imposed new restrictions on the former president, who now serves house arrest. The measure was justified by the “reiterated non -compliance” of previous precautions, especially the prohibition of the use of social networks, even through third parties.
On Sunday (3), Bolsonaro appeared on a video call broadcast during a Bolsonarist act in Copacabana, organized by allies against the Supreme Court and in defense of the former president. The video was shown in the profile of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ). For Moraes, the action represents a “deliberate maneuver” to circumvent restrictions.
In addition to monitoring by electronic anklet, the decision determines the collection of cell phones, the prohibition of visits – except by family members and lawyers – and reinforces the prohibition of any contact with ambassadors or approaching foreign authorities.
