Brazil has a perfect scenario to become a sustainable hub for the world. This is the evaluation of Roberto Rossi, CEO of Schneider Electric in Brazil. “Energy is clean and is within the best global standards and infrastructure and terrain costs are acceptable. This creates a perfect scenario for Brazil to be considered a data centers hub,” he said in an exclusive interview with Infomoney.
Rossi also shared his view of the challenges and opportunities of the electricity sector in the country, as well as highlighting the strategic role of Schneider Electric in the energy transition, sustainability and industrial digitization.

The Argentine executive took the lead of Schneider Electric in Brazil in 2024 and carries a wide 25 -year experience in the electricity sector, including tickets for Indonesia and South America. In Brazil, its main objective is to accelerate the company’s growth, which already has 78 years of operation in the country, with over 2,000 employees and industrial units in Blumenau and Manaus.
“Brazil is one of the largest economies in the world, with an energy matrix that is already 85% clean. This makes the country extremely relevant to Schneider Electric, which has one of the most important operations globally,” said Rossi.
Challenges and opportunities in Brazil and worldwide
Comparing his experience in Indonesia with Brazil, Rossi stressed the differences in energy matrices and local challenges. While Indonesia still depends strongly on coal, Brazil already has a majority electrical matrix, which directs the focus to network resilience and energy efficiency.

“The focus, in Brazil is the resilience of the network. What has happened in recent years with storms: makes us focus on how we recover the energy of the city quickly and become more efficient,” he says. “Brazil has a high scanning, but an efficiency level that is not in line with this digitization,” he says.
On the power generation side, the Brazilian market is very developed. For Rossi, the opportunity is on the demand side. “There are places that are not digitized, so we need to collect more data and analyze it,” he says. He concludes: “Now, the opportunity to add artificial intelligence and Machine Learning to bring a new level of efficiency through data analysis.”

In this scenario, the company sees great opportunities in industry, infrastructure, the entire construction sector and data centers. “It is not so simple to export the clean energy of Brazil, but it is possible to export data,” he says. For Rossi, Brazil has the potential to become a global data centers hub, thanks to the availability of clean energy, competitive cost of infrastructure and qualified human capital. “Brazil has all the conditions to be a world reference in data centers, especially with the growing demand for data processing and artificial intelligence,” he said.

COP 30
The country will be in the world’s spotlight in November, during COP 30, and, according to Rossi, this is an opportunity for the country to lead concrete actions against climate change.

“This year, Brazil has the great opportunity to be the host of COP 30. And this is a unique opportunity for the convention to be iconic, as was Paris in 2015,” says. According to Rossi, from Paris to here, many things have happened: from confirmations of climate change to the creation of jurisprudence, laws and investments. The problem is to reach an agreement and start acting, ”he says.
The executive also said that he expects COP in Brazil to be the one that started actions to accelerate these changes and that in 2035 it is possible to see the impact that the meeting in Belém has caused worldwide.
