Cyber attacks rise 30% in the country after tariff; company sees hacktivism

Brazil recorded a 30% rise in cyber attacks from the United States amid Donald Trump’s tariff, according to a survey by Digital Security company Ti Safe.

The analysis considers the actions recorded between July 8, the eve of the, and the end of last month.

TI Safe points out that the attacks were registered mainly against critical sectors of the country, such as energy, oil, steel, sanitation and government agencies. One of the main targets identified was the Supreme Court (STF), which registered ,.

Marcelo Branquinho, CEO of Ti Safe, observes the possibility that the attacks are cases of hacktivismoa form of digital activism with political and ideological motivations.

“The sudden increase in attacks on the US, added to the political context of recent weeks, suggests a clear motivation: it is not just an opportunistic cybercrime, but an ideological offensive driven by the polarizing discourse of influential public figures,” says the expert, referring to Trump -directed attacks against the Brazilian government and the Supreme Court.

By announcing the tariff, the Republican said that. Both in the letter that signaled the tariff and in the decree in which he confirmed it, Trump associated the surcharge, the one applied by the US ,.

“Even without evidence of direct involvement of the US government, it is evident that the climate of animosity encourages actions coordinated by non -state agents,” says Branquinho.

“This episode shows how geopolitical decisions can generate unforeseen consequences in the digital environment. Cyberspace has become a field of strategic dispute, and we need to treat it with the same degree of seriousness and readiness as any other national border,” he concludes.

Ti Safe points out that, despite the intensity of the investers, Brazilian systems have been able to block most attacks.

The strengthening of international cooperation to track attacks, the liability of criminals and the sharing of emerging threats are some of the points listed by the company as part of the Brazilian response to the scenario.
