Spain has allowed the landing of a ship traveling from Senegal, according to sources from the Government Delegation. This decision has been made “for humanitarian reasons” as official sources explain. At first, the ship’s shipowner, whose identity has not been revealed by the Government, had rejected landing on the Canary Island, as intended, after refusing to deposit a bail of one million euros. The ship, the fountains reported then, intended to set back to Senegal.
It is different from that applied to irregular immigrants that arrive in patera. After the rescue – if necessary – and medical care, the police can order the landing of irregular travelers and allow them to remain on land, if you believe that the polizon can be subjected to inhuman or degrading treatment on board or if they are vulnerable profiles such as asylum applicants, minors or suffer a serious disease. If not, the captain and the shipowner become responsible for the polizones, and are considered responsible for re -transferring them to the port of origin.
Throughout the process, the shipowner and the contracted consigners are responsible for their support and their surveillance with private escorts throughout the trip. If this includes scales, you will have to communicate to each port to which it is directed to travel with polizones on board. Literate assistance to immigrants, in any case, remains a fundamental right that can change the fate of the newcomer, although it does not apply in this case.
The news of half a hundred polizones had transcended early in the morning. Sources of the Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote reported that the ship’s crew had found those people hid in a gabarra they towed. Then, this agency dependent on the island council explained, they informed the authorities, after which a Civil Guard patrol escorted them on their way to Puerto.
