Why are new areas built, even though there is space in the middle of the village?

While new housing estates and supermarkets are shooting out of the ground on the outskirts, old mills, factories or hotels are falling in the middle of Austria’s communities. Areas that were once used industrially or commercially have often been broke for decades – despite the best location, connection to the infrastructure and great potential.
