The Mais Médicos program, an initiative of the federal government to expand medical care in Brazil, currently has 26,414 professionals, being the vast majority composed of Brazilian doctors, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
Of the total participants, 22,755 are Brazilian, while representing only 10% of the program.
The picture is completed by professionals from different nationalities, including 188 Bolivians, 82 Venezuelans, 55 Paraguayans and 42 Peruvians.
History with Cuba
Although there are still Cuban professionals working in the program, their participation no longer occurs through the Pan American Health Organization. Cooperation between the countries, which began in 2013, ended in 2018.
The program has been the target of the participation of Cuban doctors. However, according to information from the Ministry of Health of Cuba, the country has a history of sending professionals to various nations, including Portugal, Russia and Spain, due to its positive indicators in public health.
