Governor of SP declares to be in favor of the company’s division and more investments from the distributor; The concession is valid until 2028
The governor of São Paulo, (Republicans), returned this Monday (18.ago.2025) to criticize the performance of the energy distributor responsible for the service of 24 cities in the metropolitan region of the capital.
In the evaluation of Tarcisio, the current contract is “Extremely Bad” e “Outdated”reasons why it should not be extended. “São Paulo cannot accept that this contract is extended the way it is”said during the Forum See Infrastructure in São Paulo.
According to the governor, the company does not make the necessary investments to improve the quality of service. “The company does not […] Because it will not be recognized in the fare. And, as it is not recognized in the fare, it does not generate revenue, the company does not invest ”he declared.
He also related the high power grid recomposition time after climatic events to the lack of personnel and automation. “There are people missing, lack of automation, lack of preparation. The current contract does not guarantee this”these.
Federal Government and Aneel
Tarcísio de Freitas stated that neither the federal government nor the (National Electric Energy Agency) should renew the company’s concession, valid until 2028.
He argued that the concession be restructured and divided into more than one service area. “If I were in the federal government, what would I do? 1, would not extend the contract. Second, it would break this concession, which is very large, in at least two concessions and would establish a contract that would actually tie investments to easements and how it will be charged over time ”he declared.
Blackout
Successive blackouts have intensified criticism of the distributor in recent years. In October 2024, they left 2.1 million clients without power in Sao Paulo, some for over a week. The following month, a new storm also caused long interruptions in supply, expanding that of local authorities, such as the mayor (MDB).
The debate on Enel’s performance takes place amid the regulatory review conducted by Aneel. The agency discusses new models for energy distribution concessions that win over the coming years, including the possibility of renamement in cases of non -compliance with obligations.
