The MPMG (Public Prosecution Service of Minas Gerais) issued a formal orientation to the Civil Police delegate in Caeté, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, to prioritize the care of women victims of domestic and family violence, after to find restrictions and difficulties faced by the victims in a region police station.
During a procedure established by the agency, it was identified that women in the situation of Caeté’s district found obstacles to register occurrences and receive the proper protection at the local police station.
Testimonials and documents gathered by the prosecution that the service was being performed only in specific days and by appointment.
The Caeté Prosecutor’s Office also verified the existence of a statement at the entrance of the police unit, informing that the “Autonomous expedients of the Maria da Penha Law would be assisted only from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm”.
The recommendation of MPMG aims to ensure that the care of victims occurs throughout the hours, avoiding the revitimization of women.
In a statement, the Civil Police reported that the General Corregedoria follows the reported situations and stressed that qualified and referral to the protection net.
