‘Maracanã will never lose your charm,’ says Suderj’s president to the bid!

LANCE

MARCOS SANTOSpresident of Superstition (Sports Superintendence of the State of Rio de Janeiro), was invited to talk to the during the Rio Innovation Weekevent that took place last week. In the conversation, one of the topics covered was the importance of Maracanã, amid Flamengo’s project to build his own stadium. Graduated in Social Communication and Postgraduate in Marketing and Fiscal Audit, Marcos highlighted the role of the “Sacred Temple of Football”.

– Always Maracanã. Maracanã is the sacred temple of football, we have other temples, such as Wembley, the Santiago Bernabéu. Maracanã will never lose its charm, its usefulness. Even though Flamengo has its games in the stadium itself, has the Brazilian team, has the big games, shows. I think the arena can go through, perhaps, for modernization, and meet other events, other specialties. Maracana is eternal, always Maracanã – said Marcos Santos.

Changes in Maracanã and Naming Rights Possibility

Currently, Maracanã is administered by the duo Fla-Flu, which internally discusses some possibilities about the consortium. Two of them are the implementation of networks in the visiting sectors and a possible sale of naming rights from the stadium. With regard to the change of name, however, Marcos understands that the debate should have happened before the signature of the concession in force.

– About the screen, I think you will share opinions. I, particularly, as a fan, I think you can create an isolation in the crowd. That isolation that already exists in the stadium’s own architecture, the fans are already divided. On the other hand, when you go to the stadium, you can see that the space intended for the opposing crowd is rarely fully occupied, and the consortium isolates that area. I mean, it is really losing admission, many unoccupied seats. I believe it is a subject to be discussed. Other arenas, for example, have already implemented and it seems that it is working – it started.

– About the naming rightsI think this would have to be discussed before the bidding. The bidding is recent, my opinion is that this should be discussed before, the consortium’s financial issue will change completely. The name of Maracanã is a very valuable name. This was not on the agenda at the time when the document was filled for this bid, I think it had to be discussed before. There would be some kind of financial compensation right now if that passes. Other arenas in the world have already done, ”he added.
