The beginning of another school year brings with it the rapid pace of school purchases and the planning of extracurricular activities. For many Portuguese families, return to class means reviewing budgets and evaluating priorities, including school supplies, backpacks and explanations. According to a study of consumer choice, the Portuguese face choices ranging from savings in reuse of articles from the previous year to the decision on where and how much invest in each child.

How much is expected to spend

According to data collected by the choice of consumer and released by the site specializing in Lifestyle, Marketeer, 34% of families expected to spend between 50 € and 100 € per child on school supplies in this return to class. In turn, 25% estimate expenses between 101 € and 150 €, while 24% points to a budget of over 150 €.

Only 17% considers spending less than 50 €. These numbers reflect the diversity of priorities and possibilities between families, showing that budget management is a constant concern at this stage of the year.

Strategies to save on class return

The reuse of material from the previous year is a common practice. Explains the study that 30% of families intends to reuse most of last year’s articles, 63% plans to use only a few items, and 7% does not predict anything.

These choices indicate a conjugation between economy and need to renew school supplies without compromising the quality of the products used by students.

Choice criteria and purchase places

When deciding what to buy, the quality, durability and price of the articles are determinant for 37% of families.

Teacher or school recommendations influence 19% of participants, while the brand and sustainability of products appear in 3% of cases each.

Design or aesthetics is considered relevant for only 1%. As for purchase places, 67% of the Portuguese prefer to resort to physical stores, 27% combines purchases between traditional and online trade, and only 6% opt for e -commerce exclusively.

Most Sought after Products

Among the most sought after articles are notebooks and blocks (23%), cases and pens/pencils (20%), backpacks (18%) and school manuals (17%).

The material for the arts represents 13% of purchase intentions, while electronic equipment such as tablets and computers correspond to 8%. Other products, such as covers or separators, concentrate only 1% of preferences.

Expenses with explanations and extracurricular activities

Not all families plan to spend on extracurricular activities. For 27% of respondents, there are no costs with explanations or additional activities.

Among those who invest, 26% predicts spending between € 51 and 100 € per month, 23% between 101 € and 200 €, and 15% maintain costs up to 50 € monthly. Only 9% estimates expenses exceeding 200 €.

As for the frequency, 52% aims to register their children in an activity, 25% in two or three, and 4% in more than three. On the other hand, 19% does not plan to register children in any activity.

Student Preferences

Sport leads student choices, with 44%, followed by music or dance (21%), languages ​​(18%), science and technology (8%) and fine arts or theater (6%). Another 3% indicate football, explanations, personal interests or no participation.

The study released by the evidence that, at this time, families seek to balance budget, school needs and extracurricular activities, making decisions that combine savings, quality and pedagogical options.
