France’s Minister of Economics and Finance, Eric Lombard, ruled out the possibility of international intervention to redeem the country financially, in a statement published in X on Tuesday, 26. Lombard argued that the French economy is solid and “financing our debt without difficulties.”
“The situation of our public finances requires calm and lucidity,” he wrote. “Today, we are not under the threat of any intervention, nor of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), or the European Central Bank (ECB), nor of any international organization.”
Lombard said it is necessary to restore public finances to correct the “imbalance that is compromising our freedom as a nation.”

The minister’s comment clarifies statements made by him earlier, in an interview with Radio France Inter, and also addresses the political turbulence lived by the country. “Parliament will have a conscious choice to make. It should not be governed by frivolity or fear but by the interests of the country,” he said.
