Sebastião Francisco de Abreu, 72, and Almezinda Maria da Fonseca de Abreu, 70, They lived together for over four decades and left the same day.

Married 43 years ago, they died less than two hours apart and were buried in side by side coffins, as they lived a lifetime. The burial occurred in the city of São João del Rei, in the interior of Minas Gerais.

Sebastião had been hospitalized for more than 40 days due to a urinary tract infection and heart failure. Near the discharge, it was diagnosed with pneumonia, which aggravated its health.

Always beside him, Almezinda, who, according to James Abreu in an interview with CNNhe did not accept to move away for a moment.

On Sebastião’s death day, the family tried to save Almezinda of the news. Shortly thereafter, he was sick and was taken to the UPA. She died without knowing her husband’s departure. For the children, “seemed to feel that he was on his way to find him again.”

The cause of his death was multiple bankruptcy of organ and pneumonia. Her, cardiogenic shock. “It was a matter of minutes between one death and another. It seems that when his heart stopped, hers also stopped. It was as if he had gone out to pick her up,” said James.

Sebastião and Almezinda had a life dedicated to faith and solidarity. Religious, organized Cosme and Damião parties and donated food to needy children. “She was very fond of helping. He always supported everything. Their relationship was perfect. They never fought,” recalls the son.

The couple leaves two children and six grandchildren.
