In gross data, number is 46,000 more in one month and more than 153,000 in one year; Last time the country exceeded this statistics in August was in 2010, according to the National Employment Agency
It exceeded the barrier of the three million unemployed in August, an unprecedented number since February 2015, highlighting the impact of the unfavorable economic conjuncture on the labor market, according to official data released on Friday (29). “In August, what we expected: due to summer vacation, the number of unemployed exceeded the barrier of the three million,” said the president of the National Employment Agency, Andrea Nahles, in a statement. In gross data, a total of 3.03 million people are unemployed in the largest European economy, 46,000 more in one month and more than 153,000 in one year. However, the unemployment rate, calculated based on data adjusted to seasonal variations, remained stable at 6.3%.
The last time the country exceeded the three million unemployed in August was in 2010, according to the agency’s archives. “The labor market is still marked by the economic crisis of recent years,” said Nahles, when companies revise their hiring plans. Although some sectors, such as health and public sector, “continue to register significant job growth”, the contraction “persists in the manufacturing industry and temporary work,” he explained at a news conference.
The president of the employer confederation (BDA), Rainer Dulger, expressed in a statement that the three million unemployed are mainly “a finding of the failure of refusal to adopt reforms in recent years.” In his view, the country needs a true “autumn of reforms”.
After assuming power in May, the conservative -led coalition government should present in the coming months the promised, especially tax and social reforms, with the goal of reactivating a decline economy.
